Meet Laura, Founder of The Recovery Project

BSc Osteopathy, PgDip Western Medical Acupuncture

Osteopath, strength coach, and the founder of The Recovery Project in Cromwell, Central Otago. Laura is a registered osteopath combining clinical training with a strong background in progressive strength and rehabilitation.

Before entering clinical practice, Laura spent much of her life in the equestrian world. Working closely with horses developed her ability to read movement patterns, compensation, and subtle changes over time. Horses do not mask dysfunction, they show it through how they move, load, and behave. This early exposure shaped Laura’s movement-first lens and continues to influence how she assesses and treats people today.

What Laura Specialises In

Laura works primarily with people who are ready to move beyond short-term symptom relief and want to understand why their pain keeps returning. Her clinical and coaching focus includes:

  • Persistent and recurrent back and hip pain

  • Running-related injuries and strength training for runners

  • Strength training for people new to lifting or lacking confidence

  • Women’s health, particularly using strength training to build resilience and capacity

  • People who have relied on hands-on treatment for years without lasting change

  • Hip labral tears, gluteal tendinopathy, and complex lower-limb conditions

Meet Joshua

Osteopath (BMSkH, PG.Dip.Osteoapthy)

Born in London, raised in Christchurch and now calling Wānaka home, Joshua is coming to Cromwell to join The Recovery Project. He holds a Bachelor’s in Musculoskeletal Health and a Postgraduate Diploma in Osteopathy.

Joshua loves helping people understand what’s going on in their body, why something hurts and what they can do about it. Alongside hands-on treatment, he focuses on building confidence and giving people the tools to manage their pain, injury or recovery. He takes time to understand each person’s history and supports them from injury through rehabilitation and back to the things that matter to them.

His main clinical interests are sports injuries, rehabilitation, persistent pain and hypermobility. He also treats a wide range of back, neck, hip and limb concerns, using a mix of manual therapy, education, advice and exercise. His approach is shaped in part by competing in kickboxing and navigating his own frustrating back flare-ups.

Joshua’s background in yoga and movement coaching also influences how he approaches rehabilitation. He’s a lifelong learner who’s always looking to build on what he knows.

Above all, Joshua sees treatment as a partnership. He works with each patient to understand what matters to them and build a plan that helps them leave feeling more confident.

Meet Carleen

Admin

Carleen recently joined The Recovery Project in an administrative role and is excited to be part of the team. She and her family moved to Cromwell in August 2024 and have loved settling into the Central Otago lifestyle, spending time outdoors, being on the water, and embracing a good ice bath challenge.

Carleen brings a strong background in people-focused care, having worked as a Massage Therapist for 18 years. During that time, she loved connecting with people and supporting their wellbeing. She has also worked as a Natural Health Consultant with Health 2000, where she helped clients feel informed, confident, and supported in their health choices.

While administration is a new chapter for Carleen, she is thoroughly enjoying the role. She loves being able to continue working with people behind the scenes, supporting the practitioners, and helping create a welcoming, organised, and well-run clinic environment.
