Why Choose Osteopathy at The Recovery Project in Cromwell?
Looking for an osteopath in Cromwell?
At The Recovery Project, we help people with back pain, hip and pelvic pain, neck pain, sports injuries, osteoarthritis, sciatica and persistent or recurring pain.
Our approach combines hands-on osteopathic treatment, education and exercise rehabilitation. The aim isn't simply to make something feel better for a few days. We want to understand what is contributing to your symptoms and help you build the confidence and physical capacity to get back to work, training, sport and everyday life.
We see patients from Cromwell and across Central Otago, including Bannockburn, Clyde, Alexandra, Wānaka and the Queenstown Lakes area.
ACC and private appointments are available. You do not need a GP referral to book with an osteopath.

What Happens at Your First Osteopathy Appointment?
Your initial appointment is 60 minutes, giving us time to understand what's happening rather than rushing straight into treatment.
1. We listen to what's been happening
We'll talk through your symptoms, how they started, what makes them better or worse, your medical and injury history, and what you want to get back to doing.
That might be getting through a day at work comfortably, returning to the gym, playing sport, skiing, running or simply feeling more confident moving again.
2. We assess you
Your osteopath will perform an assessment based on your symptoms.
This may include looking at your movement, joint range of motion, strength, neurological function or specific clinical tests where appropriate.
The assessment is tailored to you rather than following the same routine for every patient.
3. We explain what we find
We want you to leave understanding what may be contributing to your symptoms.
We'll explain our findings in plain language, discuss what we think is relevant and answer your questions.
If we think further investigation, imaging or referral to another healthcare professional is appropriate, we'll discuss that with you too.
4. Treatment starts
Where appropriate, treatment can begin during your first appointment.
This may include hands-on osteopathic techniques, soft tissue treatment, joint mobilisation, manipulation, movement strategies, education or exercise.
5. You leave with a plan
Most importantly, you'll know what to do next.
That might involve a short course of osteopathy, exercises to complete between appointments, changes to training or activity, structured rehabilitation, or referral for further investigation if required.
Hands-on treatment can be useful for reducing symptoms, improving movement and helping you feel more comfortable.
But we don't believe you should have to rely on treatment indefinitely.
At The Recovery Project, osteopathy can form one part of a wider rehabilitation plan.
Depending on your needs, we may combine:
Hands-on care
To help manage pain, stiffness and movement restrictions.
Education
So you understand your symptoms, what may be aggravating them and what you can safely continue doing.
Exercise rehabilitation
To gradually restore movement, strength and tolerance.
Strength and conditioning
To prepare your body for the demands of your work, training, sport or everyday life.
Load management
To find the right balance between doing too much and avoiding movement altogether.
For some people, a few osteopathy appointments are all they need.
For others, particularly those recovering from significant injuries, surgery or persistent pain we can progress from treatment into structured rehabilitation and strength training.
